Digital "Lee" K5WXR taken in 2014
The net began as a gathering of amateur radio operators with Guy Story (KC5GOI) as HOST. This group had an interest in BBHN (Broad Band Ham Net). Initially meeting on Sundays on the W5NGU repeater 146.92. It evolved into a round table on BBHN's replacement AREDN, as well as FLDigi. After a short round of success the net faded away.
Lee Norup (K5WXR "Digital Lee") started the net back up as a place to discuss all things Digital in Amateur Radio. The net continued on in this manner for many years, with Lee as the host, many guest host's and alternate net controls being trained along the way.
With Lee's becoming sick then his passing (becoming a Silent Key) a group of operators from the Denton County area were determined to continue the net. Kelly Roark (KC5AMTJ, Scott Boutwell (KG5RJR), Shawn Reyes(KX7WTF), Heath Garner (KC5TSU), Scott Croft (N5FKU), Laird Lind (KC5LL) and Paul Estes (K5VOP) being among the first hosts to step up and fill the first year of the nets founding.
The Net's unique format of being a shade tree or around the kitchen table net and running sometimes for several hours. The format proved inviting to many NEW radio operators.
The Net continues in it's simple format with Kelly Roark (KC5TSU), KC4EEL (Bentley Parker), Scott Boutwell (KG5RJR) and Shawn Reyes (KX7WTF) Hosting on a regular basis. These HOSTS rotate in the position as Net Control Station, as well as have had many GUEST hosts in the recent years. The net still continues to be focused around digital topics and is a favorite for many new operators each week. It's laid back approach and one on one conversational style seems to be a winning combination for newer operators as well.
Hello Everyone,
If you are reading this, you are likely to be looking for some information about.me. Hopefully I know you, or at least we have had personal radio contact. If so, please feel free to email me via ARRL.Net. Or you may contact me more directly via Gmail.com using my old callsign kC5wxr, or telephone me at area code 97two, 3l7, zero297. OK? too hard? 0297. prefix is 317 and NPA is 972. It's a land-line,, so don't bother to Text me unless you have some kind of Text to Speech thing going on.
Now if you are not a radio operator, and you are some kind or internet skimming robot, I hope I confused you enough that you won't telemarket me or send spam junk mail to my personal former-callsign google mailbox. If you are a human being, I hope this made you smile, and didn't scare you away from contacting me altogether. :)
Perhaps you wanted to know a bit more about me?
